A Legislative Pilot

To create examples of legislative use of web-based communication to expand communication between lawmakers and members of the public. To identify modifications to the structure and process that will strengthen public engagement and the policymaking process.

  • Collaborate with a cadre of states/legislators.
  • Seek foundation support to create and evaluate use of web dialogues as a resource for expanding public involvement.
  • Create personalized web dialogue web sites for participating legislative committees.
  • Guide and support staff throughout development and production of initial dialogues.
  • Explore opportunities to include high school and college young people in discussion of topics of interest to them, linking with school curriculum as much as possible.
  • Identify upgrades to meet emerging needs of legislators, staff, public participants and young people as appropriate.
  • Conduct research to assess the usefulness and impact of expanded communication and engagement through web-based dialogue.
  • Communicate findings through states, NCSL, etc. to legislators.
