DISCUSSION: NCLB Public School Choice Requirements

COMMENT: Rural Mascoma Valley (NH) SAD

Submitted by Frank Heller, MPA on 10/12/04 9:00 AM

It is difficult, very difficult to get the public school community to equitably develop curriculum and program options for poor children; the bulk of whom are failing to some degree by 5th & 6th grade.

We got a lot of resistance when we started to implement the NH technology planning guidelines linking technology enhancements to educational failings.

This grant is helpful; but the bottom line is found in the evaluations that reveal the impact it has on the fate of the poor children targeted by NCLB. Have they succeeded to a greater degree than before; and at what cost? Or has this grant, like the thousands that have proceeded it also failed to effectively impact on the educational destiny of poor children?
btw...how many of you actively use the "WHAT WORKS" data base set up in the Office of Innovation & Improvement?
