The Global Dialogue on Internet Governance

The Global Deliberative Dialogue on Internet Governance is now closed. On behalf of the organizers, we would like to thank all of the participants from around the world for engaging in this stimulating discussion. Thank you for taking the time to join us and for sharing your thoughts and ideas. The goal of the Dialogue was to broaden multistakeholder participation in the global discussion about Internet governance and to provide a mechanism for input into the final Preparatory Committee Meeting (Prepcom-3) for the Tunis phase of the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

The Dialogue agenda has four Parts was organized around a series of key public policy issues. Participants could log into the Dialogue as many times as they wished, comment on any of the ideas being raised, or suggest new discussion points. The agenda was divided into four parts: (I) Overview of Internet Governance; (II) Key Policy Issues - One; (III) Roles, Responsibilities, and Governance Models; and (IV) Key Policy Issues - Two. Part I of the agenda, "Overview of Internet Governance," opened on Monday, 19 September at 8:00 GMT/UTC to coincide with the beginning of Prepcom-3.

The first webconference and live update from Geneva took place at 6:00 p.m. GMT/UTC (2:00 p.m. in New York/ 8:00 p.m. in Geneva) on Monday, 19 September, and summarized the first day at Prepcom-3, answered questions about the Dialogue, discussed the working definition of Internet Governance, and presented an overview of the policy issues on the agenda in Geneva.

Part II of the agenda, "Key Policy Issues - One," opened at 8:00 GMT/UTC on Wednesday, 21 September. The second synchronous webconference and live update from Geneva was be held at 6:00 p.m. GMT/UTC on Wednesday, 21 September. In response to changes on the ground in Geneva, we modified the agenda, and Part III was changed, "Roles, Responsibilities, and Governance Models,"and opened at 8:00 GMT/UTC on Thursday, 22 September. Finally, the new Part IV of the agenda, "Key Policy Issues - Two," opened at 8:00 GMT/UTC on Monday, 26 September. The third synchronous webconference and live update from Geneva was held at 6:00 p.m. GMT/UTC on Monday, 26 September. The final synchronous webconference and live update from Geneva was held at 6:00 p.m. GMT/UTC on Wednesday, 28 September.

Again, on behalf of all the groups collaborating to hold this global dialogue, I thank you for joining us in this fascinating discussion!
